Guest Lecturer Stephen Wasby: Trump and the Law
Start Date: 10/22/2018Start Time: 1:00 PM
End Date: 10/22/2018End Time: 3:00 PM

Event Description
The Eber Spencer Memorial Lecture Series presents Trump and the Law, by guest lecturer, Professor Stephen Wasby, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at SUNY-Albany.

Abstract: No president has become so enmeshed in legal disputes as broadly and as quickly as President Donald J. Trump, beginning almost from the moment he took office (and reaching  earlier). The various aspects of the legal disputes in which he is involved will be explored in this lecture. To be explained is that shifts in policy from one administration to the next are to be expected, but whether they are carried out in accord with the law is important. So is the president’s approach to the law and the judiciary, whether he respects the rule of law and the judges who try to uphold it These matters and others will be explored through examination of the travel ban Executive Orders and the substantial “rule roll-back” this administration has undertaken; with respect to the latter, to be explored is whether and how rules adopted by the previous administration can be eliminated.
