2020 Benefits Information

President Schneider approved the Compensation Committee’s recommendations for changes to our health care plans for 2020.  We projected a 5.52% increase to the University’s medical expenses and made some adjustments to our plan design.  Attached is a synopsis of our medical plan offerings and a spreadsheet calculator to assist with planning for premium cost.

Changes to the medical plan include:

  •          A 4% increase to employee contribution premiums
  •          A 4% decrease to the medical plan opt out payment
  •          Gold and Silver Plan single/family maximum annual out-of-pocket increase from $3,200/$6,400 to $3,300/$6,600 respectively
  •          A new Bronze Plan Single premium of 0.41% of the employee’s base pay (was 0%)
  •          A new Bronze Plan Health Savings Account (HSA) University match of employee contribution up to $20 per pay period (if the employee contributes $20 to their HSA every pay period, the University will match it, up to $520/year)
  •          Accident insurance added to Bronze Plan members at no cost to employee 

There are no changes to the dental plan and minimal changes to the vision plan monthly premiums (single $8.53; 2-Person $12.36; Family $22.17).  We continue to offer wellness incentives.  For 2020, the incentives are for attesting to being tobacco free or attending cessation sessions and completing your preventive care.  More details are included in the Benefits Summary booklet that will be distributed prior to open enrollment.

 Open Enrollment is scheduled October 28th to November 15th through bswift.  We hope you will attend an informational meeting scheduled for:

  •          Thursday, October 31st, White Chapel, 1:00 – 2:00 PM
  •          Tuesday, November 5th, White Chapel, 10:00 – 11:00 AM
  •          Wednesday, November 13th, White Chapel, 5:00 – 6:00 PM

The 2020 information will soon be available on our new Employee Benefits Center portal http://norwich.trgportal.com/ under “2020 Benefits”.  A Human Resources representative will be available to attend department meetings, please contact Stephanie Drew at sdrew@norwich.edu to schedule.
